Job Title: Truck Driver and Heavy Equipment Operator

Department:  Operations and Shop

Reports To: Operations Manager

Job Type: Full-time

Wage/Class Range: Pay depends on experience

Schedule: 10 hour shifts Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday, schedule to be determined once hired.

Location: Oakley, Idaho

We have quarries in Idaho, Utah, Washington, and Montana, and offer a wide range of products including flagstone, ledgestone, thin veneer, and specialty slabs, boulders, and aggregates. Our products are of the highest quality and we take pride in our commitment to sustainability and responsible quarrying practices. We are looking for a highly motivated and versatile Truck Driver and Equipment Operator to join our team and help us continue our growth in the industry. 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: The truck driver and heavy equipment operator will be required to perform a range of duties and responsibilities that can differ from day to day to aid in quarry operations and moving product, materials and equipment. This can include anything from operating a front end loader, excavator, dump truck or tractor-trailer.  

  • Class A CDL Required.

  • Ability to operate a front end loader to load pallets of stone onto trucks, or a willingness to learn. 

  • Drive tractor-trailer combination to transport palletized rock, equipment, and other materials to specified destinations.  Routes will mostly be between our company operated quarries. 

  • Ability to secure loads for transport. 

  • Fuel equipment at the quarry weekly and work closely with other operators to communicate maintenance and service needs to the maintenance department. 

  • Occasionally operate excavators, dump trucks, and other quarry equipment to help in rock extraction and reclamation activities.  

  • Keep an accurate log of all work performed.

  • Maintain and clean equipment, tools and facilities to ensure they are kept in a safe and usable condition at all times.

  • Adhere to company work safety policies.

  • Willingness to travel to all quarry locations in Idaho, Utah, Montana, and Washington if need arises.  Overnight travel is expected to be less than 10% of the job. 

 

Due to the many variables that affect quarry operations, such as weather and business demands, occasionally employees may be asked to perform other duties or assist in efforts outside their primary area of responsibility as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

  • Class A CDL Required 

  • Experience operating heavy equipment 

  • Demonstrated experience inspecting vehicles for faults and repairs

  • Welding and metal fabrication experience a plus, but not required

  • Computer and documentation skills

  • Sound problem solving skills

  • Effective collaboration and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and stay on task with minimal supervision

  • Willingness to learn and grow 

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  A high school education; or at least one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
